National Networks
NATIONAL Self-Care
networks
NSNs pursue specific policy and advocacy priorities and, in collaboration
with the global SCTG, develop learning mechanisms around the extent to which national self-care guidelines promote scale-up of quality, affordable self-care for those in need.
NSNs prioritize community sensitization on self-care and social
accountability mechanisms to ensure that top-down policy and guidelines
changes take root at the individual and community level.
NSNs also engage grassroots networks and communities in mobilizing
demand and social accountability for self-care policies and programs
in these countries.
SELF-CARE PIONEERS GROUP SENEGAL
The Self-Care Pioneers Group was established as the Senegal national self-care network (NSN) in 2020 to steer guidance development and institutionalization of self-care in Senegal. Led by PATH Senegal, it brings together the Ministry of Health and key local partners. The NSN was instrumental in the development of the national self-care guidelines and is advocating for its implementation, including mobilizing domestic resources.
OUR
PRESENCE
Across SCTG focus countries, our National Self-Care Networks (NSN) lead a consultative process
to define a coordinated advocacy strategy for self-care, which includes, but is not limited to:
- Development of consolidated national self-care guidelines or integrating principles and practices of self-care into existing policies/guidelines.
- Engage target policymakers and influencers in supporting self-care and instituting self-care policies and financing at national and subnational levels.
- Increasing demand and accountability for self-care among target communities and constituencies, particularly engagement with broader advocacy opportunities for family planning, sexual and reproductive health and rights, and bodily autonomy.
About
path Senegal
For two decades, PATH has worked alongside the Senegalese Government, healthcare workers, private sector companies and other stakeholders to strengthen health systems and improve health equity across Senegal. PATH’s work on self-care for sexual and reproductive health and rights is grounded in the belief that women and girls should have self-determined choice about their health and their bodies.
Key
Achievements
ADEMAS is a Senegalese non-profit organization created in 1998, a leader in Communication for Social and Behavioral Change (CSBC), Advocacy, and Social Marketing. ADEMAS has been actively working for more than 27 years to strengthen health promotion and equitable and sustainable access to health services, particularly in maternal, newborn, infant, adolescent/youth reproductive health and nutrition (MNNIH-N), family planning (FP), the fight against HIV/AIDS, the promotion of education, WASH, the environment, and women’s empowerment.
ADEMAS aims to contribute to social well-being and improve the quality of life of populations by promoting their health in general and that of families in particular. Its vision is to be an autonomous social enterprise working to improve the well-being and quality of life of African populations by 2035. Its mission is to support public authorities and other stakeholders in the areas of sustainable development by offering services and implementing interventions in social marketing, communication for social and behavioral change, and advocacy. ADEMAS also collaborates with a network of more than 1,000 community actors active in all regions of Senegal and has signed agreements with 126 Community-Based Organizations (CBOs) to implement a package of activities to create demand and distribute health products. As part of the communication campaigns supported by ADEMAS, 64 community radio stations in Senegal’s 14 regions are committed to broadcasting various types of radio programs, such as health programs, reports, short musical animations, and commercials. Its community roots enable it to implement inclusive, gender-sensitive, and human rights-based strategies. ADEMAS is also a member of civil society organizations at the national level (COSGFF, 3CAPSANTE, etc.) and sub-regional level (ECOWAS social marketing organizations).
In implementing the initiatives set out in its strategic plan and sustainability plan, ADEMAS has benefited from the support of technical and financial partners including USAID, UNESCO, WAHO, KFW, the Diane Powell Foundation, and the BOA and BHS Foundations, among others
